Dr. C. Chandrasekharan Memorial Award
An endowment instituted in November 2009 after Dr.C Cherukat Chandrasekharan, eminent scholar in tropical forestry and earlier Chief of Non-Wood Products and Energy Branch, Forest Products Division of the Forestry Department of FAO and founder of reputed newsletter the ""Non-Wood News"". The proceeds of Dr C. Chandrasekhran Endowment instituted by his family is utilised to grant an annual award named Dr Chandrasekharan Memorial Award. An annual lecture is also organised as part of the event every year around September 11, coinciding with the death anniversary of Dr C. Chandrasekharan.
The Award is presented to a research student doing notable work in any aspect of forest conservation and management in Kerala as judged by the Endowment Committee. The Award consist of a citation, a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs.40,000.
A notification inviting applications / nominations is published in the month of July/August everyyear and the short listed candidates are called for making a presentation of their work at KFRI for the final selection.
Dr. KM Bhat Endowment Awards
Dr. KM Bhat Memorial Award is instituted in the fond memory of Dr.KM Bhat, eminent scientist who has made original contribution in the area of wood science and technology during his career as Scientist in Kerala Forest Research Institute. Dr Kanithla Mahabala Bhat was an expert both in tropical and temperate hardwood and non-wood forest products, their management and utilisation including reed bamboos.
Dr. KM Bhat Endowment Award is given to a scholar every year for the best Ph.D. work completed at KFRI. The award carries a Gold Medal, Certificate of Merit and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-
