Dr.K.A. Sreejith got his PhD from FRI, Dehradun and he is actively involved in field oriented studies of tropical forests in Western Ghats. By monitoring large number of Permanent Sample Plots across the state he is trying to elucidate the vegetation dynamics of major forest ecosystem of Southern Western Ghats. In addition to small sized plots (0.2 ha to 1 ha.) he is maintaining and monitoring a large scale permanent plot (10 ha) in evergreen forest of Sholayar, which follows CTFS protocol (USA). He tries to understand the fundamental ecological and physiological processes of plants and their relations with different environmental factors.
Focused areas: Long-term Monitoring of forest ecosystems, plant ecophysiology, Plant functional traits etc, also involved in research programmes on biodiversity documentation, conservation, management and restoration of large scale ecological units.

Academics and profession:
- Post-graduate in Botany and awarded PhD from Forest Research Institute Dehradun on the work entitled ‘Ecological and Ecophysiological studies on the successional status of tree seedlings in Tropical wet-evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of Kerala’.
- Tries to understand the fundamental ecological and physiological processes of plants and their relations with different environmental factors.
- Trying to answer the interesting but challenging questions like;
- How does the changing climate affect the structure and composition of tropical forests?
- Why do certain plants cope much better than some others in the same ecosystem with the changing climate?
- How does the climate affect the phenology and life history patterns of tropical forest species?
- What changes have been brought by the climate change in the species diversity of Western Ghats?
Other information:
As a part of long-term monitoring of forest ecosystem in the context of climate change, a large scale (10 ha.) permanent plot has been established in evergreen forest of Kerala which follows CTFS (Smithsoninan University, US) methodology.
