Dr. R. Gnanaharan

Dr. R Gnanaharan served as the Director of the Institute during January 2007-May 2008. He superannuated from the service of the Institute on 30th August 2009. Before taking charge as Director, Dr. R Gnanaharan was Research Coordinator and Member of the Institute Management Committee. He obtained his M.E. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (1973) and Ph.D. in Wood Technology from the University of Minnesota, USA (1979). As the Head of the Wood Science and Technology Division, he strengthened the Division through academic inputs and skills especially in developing technologies for efficient utilization of non-conventional timber such as rubber wood, coconut wood and bamboo. He is a world authority on wood preservation techniques and has published several research papers, technical reports, handbooks and information bulletins in the areas.
