Abstract
The final report of a project carried out in Kerala between Jan. 1979 and June 1981. The incidence of infestation of S. malabaricus in plantations of teak, eucalypts and other species is described, and accounts given of its life history, ecology and control methods. The borer has a wide host range, attacking 40 species of shrubs and trees in 22 families. The most important forest trees attacked are saplings of teak, Eucalyptus, Gmelina arborea, Anthocephalus chinensis, Sterculia companulata, Albiziafalcataria and Calliandra calothyrsus
