Abstract
A plantation trial experiment was conducted for Grewia tiliaefolia Vahl (Tiliaceae) in monoculture and in two combinations with Albizia odoratissima L.f. (Benth.), Haldina cordifolia (Roxb) Ridsd., Pterocarpus marsupium Roxb. and Xylia xylocarps (Roxb.) Taub. as the other components of the two mixtures. Very high survival percentage and growth of outplanted seedlings and resistance to pests and diseases at seed, seedling and plantation stage were the salient silvicultural practices in captive plantation trials as compared to monoculture. The paper elucidates botanical, wood anatomical and silvicultural aspects of the species and concludes that G. tiliaefolia is a timber species suitable for plantation forestry in the moist deciduous forest tracts of the country
