Abstract

A total of 475 species have been recorded from the State. Among this, 149 species have been located in the coastal areas and the remaining in the mid and high lands of the state. Economic and environmental importance of the birds is described. Number of species of birds recorded from the 16 protected areas is given. Along with this past and present status of bird fauna in the state is presented. List of species of birds recorded from the state is also reported in the paper
