Abstract
A method of inducing high frequency shoot regeneration from cultured immature embryo axes and mature cotyledons of Clausena indica (a natural host of Santalum album) was developed. Direct organogenesis was induced on a medium consisting of Murashigeand Skoog's minerals and vitamins and 20 g/litre of sucrose supplemented with combinations of 5-7 mg/litre BAP [benzyladenine] and 3 mg/litre GA3 or 1 mg/litre NAA and 1 mg/litre kinetin. Shoots developed on lower levels of hormones. Shoots elongated further on media supplemented with 1-2 mg/litre adenine sulphate and 1-2 mg/litre of IAA
