Abstract
The generic name Compsosporiella is introduced for a pycnidial fungus with cuneiform conidia. The most unusual features, however, are the long conidiomatal neck and the presence of periphyses. The type species, C. deightonii, is compared and contrasted with similar fungi, including Ceratopycnis and especially Sarcinulella banksiae, which is known as the anamorph of the lichen Anisomeridium juistense
