Abstract

studies on the distribution, host range, and progression of infestation of the teak borer, Alcterogystia cadambae Moore were made. Infestation was more prevalent in the central and northern Forest Circles. Although the proportion of borer infested trees in the affected plantations was high, the average proportion of infestation at the Divisional level was very low (Southern Circle-0. 03Central Circle-0. 06Northern Circle-0. 05) . Data on annual progression of infestation in a moderately affected plantation showed the spread of infestation at the rate of 14. 5. Mechanical injury to trees such as lopping of branches, extraction of leaves, etc., promote establishment of this pest. Protection of trees from mechanical injury is suggested for regulating the build up of the pest in teak plantations
