Abstract

This paper reviews certain wood characteristics of birches relating to some aspects such as identification, structure property relationships and variability in stems, branches and roots. Age plays a significant role in influencing most of the wood properties. There is a definite pattern of variation in cell dimensions and cellular proportions especially in vessels and fibres from the pith to the periphery
