Abstract

A study was carried out to evaluate the soil organic carbon contents and the humus fractions in an albizia plantation and adjacent moist deciduous forest in Kerala. The study revealed that organic carbon and humic acid showed significant difference while for fulvic acid, the difference was not significant between plantation and natural forest. The soils in the plantation was fulvate type while those in the natural forest was humate type. The nearing equilibrium stage for humic acid: fulvic acid ratio in the plantation soils showed that there was sound environment for enzymatic activity
