Abstract

The use of polyurethane foam sheet as a substratum for germination of seeds of Eucalyptus tereticornis and Eucalyptus grandis has been standardised. The present study examines the potential of this method for raising healthy potted seedlings for outplanting. With this objective E. tereticornis and E. grandis seedlings raised on foam sheet were potted to study their performance with regard to survival and growth. A comparative study of these seedlings was made with the seedlings raised in polypotted nursery beds. The growth of seedlings on foam sheet was also studied. It is concluded that the conventional method of raising eucalypt seedlings can be substituted with this economic and convenient method
