Abstract

A hitherto unreported disease of E. tereticornis, E. grandis and E. globulus characterized by stunting of plants and considerable reduction in size of leaves and internodes was observed in nurseries and plantations 1-5 yr old. The disease was widespread but its incidence was low (less than 1) . It is thought to be seed-borne. No fungal or bacterial isolations could be made from infected plant parts, and attempts to transmit by grafting and via sap were unsuccessful. However, positive fluorescence and staining of phloem tissues by Dienes' stain indicate that this disease may be caused by mycoplasma-like organisms
