Abstract

Due to favourable environmental conditions such as high rainfall and humidity, the growth of sapstain and mould fungi poses a serious problem in the utilization of rubberwood (Hevea brasiliensis) in Kerala. Sodium azide was screened for fungicidal properties against sapstain and mould fungi growing on rubberwood. Concentrations as low as 0. 025 and 0. 05 were found to be effective. If the immersion time of the wood blocks is increased the concentration of the chemical can be reduced
