Abstract
A species trial involving Ailanthus triphysa and A. integrifolia subsp. calycina was undertaken to identify the better matchwood species for a plantation programme in Kerala. Three year growth data showed significant variation in height between species, with A. integrifolia subsp. calycina performing better (although A. triphysa showed better survival) . A. integrifolia subsp. calycina was also free from insect pests
