Abstract

Due to the various reasons, the natural resources of cane are fast dwindling and the supply is far less than the demand from the industrial sector. To meet the demands, large scale cultivation of cane is urged by researchers as well as industrialists. The use of genetically improved seeds appears a necessity, where plantations are important for production. The scope for selection of species, exploitation of inter-provenance and individual variation and prospects of exploiting hybrid vigour are discussed in this paper in detail
