Abstract
Among the 136 species comprising the 21 genera of bamboos recorded from India, 24 species consisting of 8 genera are known to occur in the Western Ghats. Of these, 9 species of bamboos which can be assigned to the category of rare/endangered species are enumerated. Therefore, 37. 5 percent of the total number of species occuring in this region, attain rare, endangered status. In this paper the distribution and conservation measures are discussed
