Abstract

Kerala has a rich and diverse butterfly fauna because of the availability of a wide range of habitats. About 1430 species of butterflies have been recorded from the Indian sub region, of which about 320 species of butterflies are from Kerala. Of about 330 species reported from the Indian subcontinent, 30 are found in Kerala which include the common bush brown (Mycalesis perseus Fb.), the white bar bush brown (M. anaxias Hewit.), the common tree brownn (Lethe rohria Fb.) and the common five ring (Ypthima baldus Fb.)
