Abstract

Round and half round poles and quarter split strips of Bambusa arundinacea were treated with different unisalt and multisalt inorganic preservatives. The efficacy of the preservative chemicals and the treatment was evaluated from the performance of the poles in ground contact and the strips in out of ground contact. The study has shown that treating bamboo poles with 10 copper sulphate solution (keeping the butt ends immersed in chemical solution for seven days) can extend its service life in ground contact considerably. For out-of-ground contact strips, treatment with boric acid will give extended service life
