Abstract

Details are given of a plantation trial conducted at Kerala Forest Research Institute with Haldina cordifolia, a moist deciduous timber species, indigenous to South East Asia. Apart from nursery and plantation techniques, brief notes are also given on the botany, distribution, timber quality, and pest and disease problems in natural stands, seeds and seedlings in the nursery and in the plantation trial. Details on performance of the species in pure and mixed plantation trials with other timber species (Xylia xylocarpa, Grewia tiliaefolia, Albizia odoratissima and Pterocarpus marsupium) are also given. It is concluded that Haldina cordifolia is a very promising timber species for plantation forestry, either in monoculture or in mixtures, especially in 50 combination with Pterocarpus marsupium
