Abstract

An analysis of price trends at timber auctions in Kerala Forest Department depots from 1956-57 to 1984-85 showed that general trends were similar for the 8 species studied: anjily [Artocarpus hirsutus], chadachy [? chadicha, Grewia asiatica], irul [Xylia xylocarpa], maruthy [? maru, Terminalia tomentosa or Quercus semicarpifolia], teak [Tectona grandis], thembavu [species unknown], vengai [Pterocarpus marsupium] and venteak [benteak or ventek, Lagerstroemia lanceolata, syn. L. microcarpa]. The prices initially decreased slighty (to 1966-69) and then increased slightly until 1976-77, when they began to increase rapidly
