Abstract

Soils of Wynad forest division were studied and a comparison made between the different ecosystems. Evergreen and semievergreen soils were loose, finer and more acidic with lesser exchangeable bases, while moist deciduous soils were slightly compact, less acidic and had more exchangeable bases. The latter did not differ much from the former in organic carbon and particle size separates. Teak had similar soil properties as that of moist deciduous. Eucalypt soil was coarse with high levels of sand and was compact though it had comparable values in other properties with that of moist deciduous and teak
