Abstract

In this article, the authors discuss in detail the various aspects of forest fire for better management of forest fires. Even though forest management plans in the country specify procedure for reporting, recording and controlling forest fires, it is seldom followed as envisaged. It is high time to review the forest fire control system of the country and make it effective in the present day context. Even establishment of a forest fire control authority would be a welcome suggestion. On the recommendation of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, the Bureau of Indian Standards has initiated action in regard to formulation of Indian Standards in the field covering various types of forest tools used for suppressing forest fires
