Abstract

One and half year old Eucalyptus teretrecornis seedlings made into stumps with 2. 5-cm shoot and 15-cm tap root were planted out in pits and crowbar holes in Kerala. Fertilizer and insecticide treatments were combined factorially. Survival and height growth at 9 months were significantly higher in pits than in holes. Fertilizing with Factam Phos (16: 20) [NP] at 10 g/plant, 15 days after planting, reduced survival but significantly increased height growth of surviving plants. Dipping stumps in 2 percent aldrin (insecticide) delayed sprouting whereas mixing aldrin 5 percent dust in pits, or drenching holes with 0. 04 aldrin, did not. Insecticidal treatment reduced survival in all cases, especially after dipping. Although stumps formed multiple shoots, one shoot always grew strongly
