Abstract

Seeds of Eucalyptus tereticornis, E. grandis and Anthocephalus chinensis were successfully germinated, and seedlings grown on sheets of polyurethane foam which is cushioning material. Sheets of 12 mm thick and 30 cm square were wetted and placed in trays with water just upto the foam surface. Seeds were sown on the foam sheet. Germination of eucalypt seeds started by the 3rd day, and was almost complete by 7-8 days. Seedlings remained healthy for about 15 days after which yellowing and etiolation occurredseedlings could be successfully pricked out to polypot containers to give satisfactory growth. The method has potential for nursery use
