Abstract

By introducing solutions of growth regulators into the internodal cavity of 2-noded bamboo culm segments or by dip-treating basal ends of lateral branch cuttings before planting in nursery beds, good rooting response was obtained. The technique is simpleand more propagules can be obtained this way than in conventionally used offsets which involved much labour in extraction and are heavy to transport. While the relative efficiency of different growth regulating substances need to be ascertained, use of boric acid has the advantage of cheapness and ready availability. Horizontal planting position responded well even for lateral branch cuttings than vertical planting. Culm bits gave very few roots and are therefore unsuitable for large scale propagation
