Abstract

Under tropical climatic conditions, seeds of many medicinal plants on storage, are susceptible to attack of micro-organisms causing biodeterioration and rendering them unsuitable for use. Stored seeds of five important medicinal plants are studied and the seed microflora therein is reported. The seeds of all the five species were subjected to BGYF (Bright Greenish Yellow Fluorescence) test for the presence of aflatoxins. Only seeds of Holarrhena antidysenterica gave BGYF indicating the presence of aflatoxins
