Abstract

The paper gives an account of the research work and action programme carried out by Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi for the genetic improvement of forest tree species in Kerala. Main plantation species like Teak, eucalypts, and Ailanthus were included for this programme involving provenance trial, selection of seed stands and plus trees and also establishment of seed orchards. Vegetative propagation methods developed at KFRI for bamboos and other species are also reviewed
