Abstract

Although over 100 species of Albizia are known, only 14 species occur naturally in India. No major pest problems occur in natural stands of Albizia. Some of the leaf-feeding, sap-sucking and bark feeding insects attack all species of Albizia are most prone to pest attack than native ones. Pest problems are more in nurseries and young plantationsthe psyllids and the butterfly larvae, Eurama spp. are considered serious. The bark-eating caterpillar, I. quadrinotata and the bagworm, P. plagiophleps are potential pests in the plantations. The intensity of damage is to be assessed and control measures are to be standardised against the bruchids attacking Albizia seeds. More data on the economic loss due to pest attack has to be generated before attempting control measures
