Abstract

The effect of treatment of FME on pseudergates of P. nayari has been studied. High doses of FME (2, 2. 5 and 3. 0 ug) resulted in the formation of presoldiers. Low doses (0. 5, 1. 0 and 1. 5 ug) did not produce any presoldiers, although a dosage of 1. 5 ug produced pseudergate-presoldier intercastes. Other intermediate forms, pseudo-imagoes, were also obtained from several treated groups. The possible role of JH in soldier formation in P. nayari is discussed on the basis of results obtained in other lower termites
